I am writing to express my very sincere thanks and appreciation for all the staff at Elm Manor in Canandaigua. My Mom, Betty, is 90 years old and has been under their care since November 2012. Up to that time – for the past 20 years – I have been my Mom's sole caregiver which I was blessed to be able to do until she broke her hip and her dementia really worsened. It took time for me to release control of her to these wonderful people but I have truly grown to trust and appreciate all the care they give her.
I never thought I would be writing a letter of Thanks when my Mom is in a nursing home, but I do so with a very grateful heart for this wonderful experience.
I wanted to let you know the residents are all treated with such a family like setting thanks to your wonderful staff.
– Charlene S.
A note to tell you how most appreciative we all are for the wonderful care my mother, Maria, had received at Woodside Manor. For 2 ½ years the entire staff treated my mother with kindness, consideration, great care and most of all love. It was not an easy job, and yet no one ever complained to us. We now miss our mother tremendously, but also miss visiting with your entire staff. They truly gave her the best care possible and for that we will always be grateful. Please extend our gratitude to all. I miss them, for to us, they also became special friends.
– Alla H.
We are Trudy’s family in North Carolina. We have very, very much appreciated the care and love she always received from Woodside Manor. She was loved and cared for and you always helped us when we called; the connection to her was always through your help. We just wanted to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You’re the greatest.

This letter comes with a catharsis of emotion as we attempt to describe the benevolent, sincere, compassionate and often challenging care provided to our father Salvatore “Sonny” while in the care of your staff. Having not had an opportunity to see him for many years prior to his illness and arrival to Rochester we were challenged to both assess and determine the most appropriate placement for him which brought much trepidation to the decision making process. After a short-term admission to an assisted living facility we quickly understood the breadth and depth of his need for safety and assistance with ADL’s. Soon we discovered The Hurlbut – through many recommendations by providers and Social Workers. Their explanation of your services, while accurate, did not nearly describe the amount of compassion your staff imbues for all their patients. This experience was recognized laterally from administration through to housekeeping, nursing, and dietary staff. Everyone addressed him personally and stopped to wish him well and hear what he had to say! The staff never just passed him by as he resided primarily at the nursing station 24/7 which brought him much comfort.
As a resident he brought with him many challenges from a safety standpoint as well as behavioral. Your staff remained gentle and reassuring during his less than affable moments, of which we are forever grateful. Edith the unit secretary and nursing staff truly understood him – which is yet another testimonial to their commitment to individualized care.
As a result my sister and I were given much reprieve from ongoing concerns during the times we were unable to see him. Our visits were as frequent as possible and random but the care was always consistent on every shift with every staff member. My father’s quality of life while at The Hurlbut was a true manifestation of your well established “family centered mission and values”
Our father lived out a dignified a life, was clean, comfortable, and cared for during his residency at your facility and for this my sister and I are sincerely grateful. It is our hope that this message reminds and invigorates your staff to continue to do the wonderful work they do for residents and their families who so often, are vulnerable and challenged when our loved ones need more than we can personally provide. Abdicating such responsibility is never easy but we had complete trust in all of you and for this again we are grateful.
– Andrew M. and Nancy B.
I would like to thank all of you for your kindness, caring and concern towards my father while he was a resident/patient at Penfield Place. I consider both he and I to be blessed in the fact that he received excellent care in a highly skilled nursing facility. The medical knowledge demonstrated in keeping him as pain-free as possible in his last days was most comforting.
It was nice meeting all of you (despite the circumstances) and I know you will continue on to give the best care possible in services to those who need it.
– Louise R.
We just wanted to send a quick “thank you” for all that you did for our mom while she was a resident at The Hurlbut. Although she was never happy about being there (or any other place other than her apartment) the staff there did everything anyone could ask, to help her feel at home. She mentioned several times that you took good care of her and that meant a lot to her children.
The nursing staff, especially Samantha, Sabrina and Linda, were exceptionally good to her. The aides were also very kind and patient with her. We know there were times when things got rough for all of you, but through it all, the staff always treated her with dignity and respect.
Thank you doesn’t seem sufficient, but the gratitude is sincere. So, “thank you” to the staff on E1 from all 4 of Dorothy’s children.
– Sue S., Janis H., Drue H. and Linda D.
Your fine care during the two weeks I stayed with you at Wedgewood, following my knee replacement surgery still fills me with a warm glow. Everyone was so friendly, encouraging and supportive. Also, there was a great deal of healing laughter in that place! I loved being there. God’s best blessing to you always.
– Sybil R.
We want to thank you all at Wedgewood for the great care, support, and friendship you gave Pat during her stay with you. We truly appreciate everything you have done for us.
– The family of Pat. B.
Sending all of you a big Thank You for all your efforts and support during Ruth’s recent stay at Wedgewood Nursing home. Ruth is now living at Westwood Commons in North Chili, less than 2 miles from us. Westwood Commons welcomed Ruth, and she is now a “willing” member of the community there. In fact, she loves it there and has adapted extremely well. It is the perfect place for her to be living at this stage in her life. Assisted living is what she absolutely needs, and Ruth is the first one to say she does. Thank you all once again.
– Jillian, John, and David W.
We would like to thank everyone at Wedgewood for their gentle care of our sweet Angelina. So many of you filled her final months with love, laughter and an abundance of affection. The quality of care that you provided her was exceptional. The way in which you made us feel right at home will forever stay in our hearts. What a blessing you all have been to our family. We hope that a little of Angelina’s warmth and infectious smile will stay with each of you.
– Manuel & Maria D. and Family
The Christmas party for residents and their families was a lovely event. Decorations were beautiful, food delicious and so elegantly presented – such attention to detail. All the residents were dressed festively. Lively and uplifting entertainment was enjoyed by all. Thank you for the compassionate and caring nursing home care for our mother and grandmother. We deeply appreciate each and every employee.
Dear, dear people who cared for Alice! This note is so late in coming, but no less heartfelt. I know my brothers and sisters are as grateful as I am for the love, care and attention you showed our mom – and to us. I will never forget the visits, the meals, and probably the most vivid, those nights I had sleepovers with Alice in room 7. When I happen to see anyone out and about, it is a most welcome treat. You all have sweetened my life. With all my love and gratitude…
- Mary B.
Thank you so much for all you did for our mom. You were like family to her and to us also. We will always be grateful to you for making her feel so special. Thank you again.
- Joyce P. and Elsie P.
We think Wedgewood Nursing Home is fantastic! We have past experiences with other facilities, but none compare to the care my Mother currently receives. Amy, Nicole and others at Wedgewood are highly professional and treat each resident and family member with individual care and attention. By far, Wedgewood surpasses other nursing homes where my Mother has previously resided. All of her needs are carefully met with attention to detail within a small, family oriented environment. I greatly appreciate the care my Mother receives.”
– Kathleen P.
I had a wonderful stay. I would recommend this rehab facility to anyone. As a nurse, I found the PT/OT services to be one of the finest I’ve worked with. They really go above and beyond.
– Kristine M.
I cannot tell you what a blessing it was to me – you were angels sent by the Lord. Her attitude has definitely changed for the better. The prior situation with her was horrible, her living conditions HAD to change, and it has been a fierce battle. Thanks again for your kindness; it spoke new life into both of us. May the Lord richly bless you.
– Linda S.
Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. This is one of the best nursing homes by far, and you treat your patients so well. You will all be truly missed. Thank you once again.
– Lilisha M.
Thank you ALL for the help you gave Mom and ALL of the residents you care for. I watch daily how you love and care for each one of them – no matter how difficult things get. I know the Good Lord will bless each and every one of you in a special way!! You are truly dynamic individuals in your own special way! Good health and happiness for each one of you.
– Marci P.
Just a note to thank you and all your staff for the many years of TLC given to my mom. Your people were very patient, as mom can be difficult at times, and I asked many questions and received answers. Thank you again, all of you.
- Dave W.
I wanted to thank all of you for the exceptional care my mother received at your facility this past year. It was hard to see her so debilitated, but knowing how much you all care about your residents made it easier to be so far away. I hope you know what a difference all of you make to your residents – as well as their families.
- Laura C.
Many thanks to the staff at Penfield Place. It is such a blessing for our family to know Eileen is so happy here. Enjoy the cookies!
- Marian Q.
My story at Penfield Place was great. Absolutely everyone was very friendly and efficient. They made my stay very pleasant. I’m very happy to say, “I’m glad I came here.” The therapy was very thorough and was exactly what I needed. I’m leaving here thinking about how many friends I’ve made. I would come here anytime and recommend it to everyone.
- Susie C.
Thank you very much for taking good care of my mother-in-law and grandma in Penfield Place. She said she loved the food and the good care she got! She was a great mother-in-law and grandma! Thank you to all of you that took care of her!
- Eydie S.
How does one properly thank so many people who have had such a positive impact on our lives? From the day that Will arrived at the Brightonian we were welcomed into a very special “family”. Everyone worked so hard to accommodate his special needs – it didn’t matter if it was medical, physical, dietary, personal comfort, or had to do with business, his choice in reading materials or TV programs, there was always someone there to help him or to just chat with him. He enjoyed joking with the nurses and aides, talking about sports, and giving out Tootsie Pops whenever he could.
All in all, everyone at The Brightonian played a part in making our beloved Will able to live the last year and a half of his life surrounded by people who cared – and for that we cannot thank you enough.
To the Staff at The Brightonian Nursing Home,
I appreciate the friendly faces & loving care given to me by the caring staff during my rehab stay. I was rehabbed & have no problem getting up & down the stairway to my bedroom. Thank you physical therapists & occupational therapists.
The Activity Director, Orpha, had many activities planned, which I found enjoyable. I'd always rather be out of my room & doing something fun. My husband & I enjoyed the music activities, Bingo with Mary, & my brother attended a music activity where we all knew all the oldies but goodies.
We met many wonderful residents there, enjoyed talking with them, going to Church services, & recieving communion brought in by volunteers.
I had the best tech aide, Tina, who helped me with showers on Tues. & Thurs. She was always helpful & sure had a good work ethic. I loved talking with her.
I can't forget the food. They do a wonderful job in the kitchen & the food is very good. Again, thank you all for your caring & concern for all the residents at the Brightonian.
- Judith B.
To the staff of The Brightonian Nursing Home
Our dad entered your facility in October 2009 for rehabilitation. After several attempts to return to his beloved home, your 'home' became his home for the duration of his days. Cranky though he may have been at times, I believe he came to accept the fact that he would not be regaining his ability to move around nor be able to support himself at his family home.
The care he received was always what he needed, even when he did not want it. He developed friendships of a sort with other patients, their visitors, and with staff members. Certain people were his favorites, even though his treatment of them was rough at times. My brothers and I are grateful for the patience, the loving care, and humor with which you all treated our dad.
All of this is to say THANK YOU for ALL that you did for Dad while he was with you, and thank you for all the support and care you showed to me and to my brothers when we visited him. You were all gracious and kind and loving in how you treated all of us.
- Ruth H.
To all of my new friends on East 1,
I want to thank everyone for all you did for me to get me home. I’ll never forget all of you. All of my nurses, aides, and therapists. Love you all.
I want to thank all of The Hurlbut staff, nurses and aides on 9B side and 34A side who took such wonderful care of my mom. She entered The Hurlbut in August 2012 and I was amazed how everyone was so nice, friendly, and loving to my mom over the 8 months that she was at The Hurlbut. She often commented how nice everyone was to her. It sure takes special, caring people to work at a nursing home. I can't thank you enough for taking great care of my mom. I will remember all the special people I met over the 8 months. I was greeted with a smile from the time I walked to when I left. Everyone was so nice to my dad too!
