Q.

Can residents leave communities with their families? Can residents stay overnight with their families?

If physician orders specify that residents can go out with family and friends, they are welcome to do so. The nursing staff should be advised so medications can be adjusted or sent with the resident. Residents must sign out and sign in at the nurses’ station. Residents may stay overnight upon physician’s order. If the resident is a Medicaid recipient, there is a limit to the number of days per year. For those receiving skilled care, we request that they stay within the facility so the services can be provided and insurance coverage can continue.

Can you smoke in a community?

Each one of our Hurlbut Care Communities is smoke free, so there is no smoking permitted inside the community or on the grounds. Should a resident requires support to quit smoking, please advise the nursing staff so a physician can order medication to help that resident achieve the goal of smoking cessation.
